HE WAS NOT MINE TO GIVE

He was not mine to give, he was always yours
I love him more than anything
But Lord I know you love him even more
I do not understand why my intense joy was turned to pain
No more than why some days You send sun, some day's rain

He was so beautiful, he was my son
I love him more than anything
But Lord I know he is with you having so much fun
I would love to have more time for play and loving hugs
To growl at frogs, hear choo choo trains, and catch some bugs

He was my pal, he was my friend
I love him more than anything
But Lord I was not ready for it to end
His mother and I need him, but he needed you more
So when this life is over we will meet him at Heaven's door

He lives in my heart, he lives in my soul
I love him more than anything
But Lord I know you also paid this toll
To give us Your promise of faith, hope, and love
Then Your Son arose from the dead to build us a place above

He is so safe, he is seeing all
I love him more than anything
And Lord I know you won't let us fall
Because right now you carry me minute to minute, day to day
Put my heart at peace, joy to my soul, understanding the way

He is everywhere, he speaks to me
I love him more than anything
And Lord I know one day I'll see
When your plan is met, goals are reached, and my life is done
The pearly gates, the streets of gold, my only son
